Global Youth Service Day: April 21, 2012

Global Youth Service Day is the largest youth service event in the world, celebrated in over 100 countries, and is coming to Delaware on April 21, 2012! Our goal is to have 600 youth volunteering across the state. Anyone under the age of 22 can participate in this GLOBAL day of service. There will be projects in all 3 counties.

Sites for Global Youth Service Day

Thank you to all of our sites who are hosting youth on April 20-21, 2012 for Global Youth Service Day.

 Other organizations: Coastal Cleanup, Christina River Watershed Cleanup, Edgemore Community Center, Food Allergy Multicultural Society of Delaware, and more. 

Spring Competition

Announcement: The Spring Competition is March 17, 2012

It is time for the 5th annual Jefferson Awards Spring Oral Presentation. The location will be announced soon. We want to know everything that the Students in Action teams have been doing all year. The electronic form is submitted below. A Jefferson Awards representative will be visiting your school to tell you all about it and we are just a phone call/e-mail away for all of your questions! The top school walks away with a FREE trip for two students and one faculty member to the Jefferson Awards National Ceremony to represent your region! 

The electronic form is on Wufoo this year. Please complete the form in microsoft word and copy & paste the information in. This form is due on March 2, 2012 at midnight. 

Can Food Drive Challenge

The Can Food Challenge is coming to the state of Delaware. The Jefferson Awards, Communities in Schools, and the Food Bank of Delaware are hosting this event. Please contact Melanie Gonsecki if you are interested in participating.

Food Bank Launch on MLK day

On January 16, 2012 the Food Bank of Delaware hosted the launch for Semester of Service, Global Youth Service Day, and the can food drive challenge. Communities in Schools, the Jefferson Awards Students in Action, the University of Delaware, and different Youth Organizations are signed up to participate. We want to thank everyone who came out to support this launch. It was a great success!

The 76's are hosting Jefferson Awards teams on April 17, 2012 at their home game. Save the date in your calendar! You do not want to miss this event. Come celebrate the success of the year and all of the hard work you have done to serve your community. Please contact your faculty coordinators closer to the date to see how you can attend. 


Youth Service Challenge



The City of Lewes, Delaware hosted a Launch for the Youth Service Challenge on January 9, 2012. Their city is ready to hear about the outstanding service their youth are participating in. We would like to extend a special thank you to Mayor Ford of Lewes, DE, council members, Cape Henlopen High School's Leadership team, and Lewes residents for supporting the launch. Students from elementary school through the age of 22 can upload their service project to YouthServiceChallenge.org to qualify for Local and National Awards. Mayor Ford III will award four winners in May in the areas of hunger, health and wellness, environment, and Build Your Own Service Project.
